Who you are

You are a PHP programmer eager for a proper challenge. You may not have that many years of experience working in the real world but you understand what coding is all about: it is complicated and requires planning, discipline and structure and you need intuition, intelligence and the ability to communicate well with others; sometimes it requires long hours and unfriendly deadlines. The programming experience you already have makes you want to be involved with something interesting, highly challenging and cutting edge. You want to feel the exciting  rollercoaster of a start-up company, if you have been there before you want it again.

Where you will work

You will work at our offices in Dunsfold Park, Surrey where you will have your own quiet room (having said that they film Top Gear on our forecourt so there is sometimes a bit of noise).  We will even provide a computer, desk and some form of seat. Although it is fine for you to occasionally work from home you will not be telecommuting, so please don't ask.

What you will do

You will be part of the development team creating phuser, a powerful and truly useful website which will be taking the Internet by storm later this year.  You will be responsible for coding crucial components of the system. If you make it to interview then we will show you what it is all about. For now you can assume it will fire you up and push you to the limit of your abilities and that you will enjoy working with us.

Your skills

You have web development experience and are a whizz with PHP, preferably PHP5.
You are au fait with the key principles of relational database design. We don't expect you to recite SQL99 or the eight Normal Forms in your sleep but you know the difference between right and wrong and you know how to build web apps that work with the database, not against it.
You know about, and love, all things good like XHTML, CSS and W3C web standards. If you know about accessibility then even better.
Some XML and AJAX knowledge will make us like you more.
You are self motivated, know when to ask questions and when to just figure it out yourself.
You probably started out by taking software and hardware to bits and have an instinctive feel for how computers work even though you can never quite remember the syntax for sed and awk.  We have books for that stuff.
Sometimes you get it wrong and sometimes you get it very right. Most importantly, you are self-aware enough to know that you don't know it all.
Oh, and you are able to produce high quality code within a reasonable time frame.

Who we are

We are Bluefire Systems, a young, dynamic start-up with an amazing idea (or so they tell us), modest funding and global ambitions. Our service and brand is going to be shaking a few cages, so best get on our side.

What you will get

Your remuneration will be a salary commensurate with your skill and experience (£24,000 and beyond) and the option of a piece of the action. Yes, that means stock options.

Please send your CV to:
