Hi, folks.
Just came across this forum and browsed a few threads; in fact, I came across one thread that piqued my interest so much I decided to register, just so I could ask a question about the topic.
A little about me: I am an amateur webmaster. I have a few sites up, and hope one day one of them (or more) starts to pay for itself, but so far they have brought in a mind-boggling 0 dollars! (Not counting all the time I put into them, the hosting costs, etc.). I pop into various webmastering forums perhaps once a day (SP, DP, V7N, etc.) but don't live in them. Most of the time, there is (maybe) one thread that really catches my attention or offers me an opportunity to offer assistance.
So now I am off to visit the thread that brought me here. See you around the forums!

Hello Duncan,
I am glad to have you onboard
Webmastering is not an easy job (I know that most of people start a site, thinking that can make a gazillion dollars in a few days, but that's no true)
You have to invest some money, but more important a lot of time to make a success in this job. But it's ok, because the prospects are great and you can have fun while doing it
BTW I am courious, what was the thread that made you like the site?
Hello Duncan, . . . BTW I am courious, what was the thread that made you like the site?
It was your reply to olaf in the Website Promotion forums about Digg being an alternative bookmarking site to del.icio.us. I know Digg can send a lot of traffic to a site so I thought, if I am missing some aspect of Digg, I'd sure like to learn a lot more.

Thanks, Nikolas.
I keep reading about how article submission is an excellent way of promoting a website; however, I have never considered article submission for my own website. My website does not have articles on it and I am not planning to start writing any.
The assumption I am making right now is that article submission is of benefit only if you have articles on your website. You then submit a small summary of the article to various places, and people are directed back to your site to read the complete article. However, if you do not have an article on your website, then article submission is not an option for you. Is my assumption correct or am I missing something?

"...article submission is of benefit only if you have articles on your website..."
not really. the goal of article submissions is like making doorway pages yet useful and entertaining. for example:
i have a photo gallery about filipina penpals which i cant really optimize for the search engines. now how can i target my keywords? i simply write articles about filipina ladies, their good qualities, attributes, etc., targeting different keywords for each article. after i submit the articles to directories, the search engines will pick it up and when a keyword im targeting gets searched, my articles wil land in the search result since directories are spidered frequently. the resource box beneath my articles will lead the reader to my site. if i got my reader interested, he will follow the link.
