How Long to Wait for Google Analytics?

Hi, folks.

I am wondering how many people here use Google Analytics and how long you had to wait before you were accepted?

I first heard that Google Analytics was available on SitePoint (SP), and I don't think SP is slow in getting news like that. However, by that time, Google was simply putting everybody on a waiting list, which I joined. That seems to have been a LONG time ago. I am starting to wonder if perhaps my name got deleted by mistake. Surely it cannot take six months and longer for Google to work through the waiting list. And having heard the news immediately from SP, I would think I am near the top of the wait list.

So I can't resist asking other members of this board: How long did you have to wait to get your Google Analytics code?

Should I assume Google lost my contact info, and re-apply?

I think that now is by invitation only.

Resubmitting wont get you anything.

It looks like Google really like "by invitation only". Just take a look at gmail!

"by invitation only" could be a smart marketing trick by Google, because if you only can be accepted by invitation then you must be something special to be accepted . I don't think that we will see any kind of open application thing before the end of this year for Google Analytics

actually there is no invitation possible right now, there is a limit of some profiles for existimng accounts and its not allowed to give this profiles away to other peoples.

I don't like google analytics because it slows down the website if you place the code into the page...

That's off topic, but yes gmail is still invitation only. I believe that this "invitation" system is a good promotion for them....

An update:
I finally received my Google Analytics code!

I have begun playing around with it on one of my websites. So far it looks pretty good, offering much more information than I will probably ever need.

One difference that I have had to get used to is that it requires you to add code to the index page AND all other pages you want to include in the tracking. I am used to other trackers (for example, Extreme Tracking) keeping track of one page only. So far, I have added the Google Analytics code to the index page plus two or three other pages. I then use the "entry" page information to tell me which page people are entering the site from. If I get time, I will add the tracking code to the rest of the pages, but it's not a high priority; there are really only two or three pages on the site that I am curious enough to track.

So far, I have not noticed a site slow-down. But then my site isn't very big anyhow and doesn't get a lot of traffic (perhaps 100 visitors per day, based on the four pages currently tracked).

Yes normally the google is fast and if you have a site in the US you don't have problems with slow connection between US and Europe for example. Maybe its an idea to put this code to an included JS file, that much easier to change (sometimes) Check the web (or the analytics group) how to do that.

I notice it doesn't even come with a <noscript> option, which surprised me. I had expected Google to offer some professional, industrial-strength, code that would handle just about all potential surfers.

I tried it a while with the suggested code inside the header. Without javascript google analytice will not work, the most of the information send to analytics is captured with JS. That why I use a serverside solution...

It took me 5 months after I applied to google analytics till I got in.  I am sure that time will get better and better, but you really should make it an active task on yourn todo list to apply because its really a 300 dollar a month tool made free.  They advertise invitations on ebay for 300 dollars.

I got my invite within a month after writing in on the waiting list. It is now on my todo list to try it on one of my sites...
