Me too, but what if the name you need is already registerd by someone else?
That really depends on the purpose that you want the domain. For me there are two strategies :
1) Keywords This strategy is used only if the site is not something really special, and you don't want this domain to be a brand name or something. In this case you can buy your keywords on any tld that is available
2) Branding domains An example of this is this site. Webdigity does not means something, but that's the reason that people will remember a place like this(I mean they will remember it as a name). This is a better strategy for this reason, but it will work only with specific tlds. .Com is the best one, but if your site is for Holland's audience, the .nl tld would be by far better.

These are some good ideas, I'm happy that some of the names are still available for .nl. Doing it this way I registered last weeks linktrading and easythumbs (and my last name ). The branding thing is really a good one...

I think it is the most important thing for new sites.
Take this for example. How many webmaster forums exist right now? I think there are maybe more than 200.
So let's say that you gone to webmasterforum. something, and you like the place. Is this easy to remember? I guess it is, but you wont remember the tld as well. So if you want to come back to this site, you will have to check all the webmasterforum. something tlds untill you find it.
A domain that aquired for branding will be more easy to learn, as it is something unique. A new word that you don't know, but that's also the reason that you will mention it. And of course is something that users will like as a custom template or logo. I think branding domains are the best way to move in our days.
And also I see that my branding domain sites have more type in traffic. That proves that people learn those domains.

I think over here in the US, if the website is for a company; most just assume it is a .com. I would argue that anyone seeking a US audience for a business site should use always use a dot com and get .info, .org, .net and maybe .us to protect the brand.
The one notable exception being del.icio.us. But, I wonder how many add the .com on the end anyway.
I think it's interesting that Webdigity doesn't have some kind of meaning. I always think of an old song, think it was by Dean Martin? and later used to sell hot dogs...Hot Digity, dog digity ooh what you do to me....
