Hello,
is there a open source script or tutorial to build an Ajax search field like this one?
http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

You can do that with scriptaculous (it is a library-framework based on the prototype library)
Check the demo :

I prefer the prototype and the scriptacoulous libraries.
They have a lot feautures, they both used in the biggest ajax projects and they are cross browser compatible.

There is no php community in Greece. There are not so many people that 'talk' php here, but there are a lot that are busy with the football AJAX
