It's time to use PHP5!

« on: Jul 19, 2006, 12:49:08 am »

Hello,

After (almost) everyone here has its own directory site I created my own one:

http://www.1linkdirectory.com/

I used a complete (very cool) script and niw I have to fill the directory (what a work...)  Shocked

Tell me what do you think about? (members of this forum may add their website for free...)

There are much more features but I need some more time to fill the database first.

Dang... Very nice website. It is a little confusing with all the sub catagories, might help to list all the catagories and sub catagories on the home page. Nice site though.

hm... I thought this is normal that only the main categories are on the main page (like DMOZ). Maybe I should look to add the (first 5-10) second level sub categories too... but this is later, thanks for this suggestion

That's a very good suggestion, and it will help with serps too. Try to do something like the category listing in the home page of topsites.

Also I think you should add more top level categories before you announce the site, because it will be difficult to add the new sites

yes of course I'm happy the site is up  Cool

I don't gonna promote the site before this is done, I posted it here to get some first feedback.

Thanks

PS. Nick by the way this software is OOP and is using the smarty template engine, modifications are very easy to do...

Nice design! Yeah , I think that your first task is to add some categories. Let me know when you have added a whole bunch!

about the categories:

I got a category dump with more then 10000 records to import into my database. But I think this will be penalized from search engines because my url's will look like from others users of this script. I'm right?

Even if search engines wont penalize you, the users will do Wink

Right that will say 10000 categories is at least 10000 links (I think need more then a year for this).

I create categories where I have links for and later people can suggest new categories...

The best is to put every root category that you can have (no more than 10-12) and then add subcategories while you have more sites in the directory that can have their own directory.

I started my directory with this plan and a few categories, and now it has about 160 categories. This way it is also easier to moderate the site (as you will know all the categories that it has)

I will submit some sites too.

BTW you can add a link to your directory here and here and then try to announce it to other webmaster forums too (there is allways a 'post your directory' thread in webmaster forums)
