Replacing the accesspoint is probably not needed. A better thing to do is replacing the antenna of your accesspoint. Special longrange antennas are available. Some pretty impressive signal strenght can be achived with a homebrew antenna made out of a tin can: http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/has.html (if you like ghetto hardware that is...) If you want a ready to use commercial replacement have a look at http://www.cantenna.com/ (which is basicly the same)
