wifi signal strength is low

Hello,

If I'm working in the front yard of my house my wifi connection is often broken.

I have a 11Mbit linsys access point and some mini lan card in my note book (54Mbit).

what is the best way to get a better signal strength:
replace the network adapter or the access point? (what make sense?)

Replacing the accesspoint is probably not needed. A better thing to do is replacing the antenna of your accesspoint. Special longrange antennas are available. Some pretty impressive signal strenght can be achived with a homebrew antenna made out of a tin can: http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/has.html (if you like ghetto hardware that is...) If you want a ready to use commercial replacement have a look at http://www.cantenna.com/ (which is basicly the same)

Another option is to mount one of these to your laptop and point in the direction of your accesspoint http://www.wwc.edu/~frohro/Airport/Primestar/Primestar.html
