I used to play Starcraft as a teenager.

I have also played Warcraft, Age of empires and others, but I can't really help you as I don't know what are the top strategy games now.

I believe that World of Warcraft is the way to go. You pay a membership each month to log into the online play area. They update the worlds every so often, so it is always expanding.
