Got this story at work today.. liked it. Enjoy.
A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said," Lord,I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.
The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You have seen Hell."
They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, "I don't understand"." It is simple said the Lord, "it requires only one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other. While the greedy think only of themselves."
Moral:
Its people's attitude that makes our place of work, a hell or heaven to them!! 'Help and Seek Help' this makes all the difference to each individual's life...and makes our lives hell or otherwise. Success and happiness is all about effective team-work.....make it a great place to work.

I knew this story already (it's an old shoe ) but the interpretation (the moral) from nramkr is straight to the point, I think it's about open source and a better internet...wel done!
but at the end if evertything is Open source who will pay our bills?

Open source is the "scientific" view of information technology.
For example Pythagoras doesn't had copyrights to his great mathematical types, but the fact that everybody can use those types doesn't mean that mathematics (I mean the proffesionals who work as mathematics) are not usefull.
The same applies here too. The fact that you can have for free a forum software doesn't mean that you can install it, modify it, etc. That makes work for many people. Also there are open source foundations that pay a lot of money to people that contribute code to their projects (most of them get more money that they would get if they were working for IBM or Microsoft....)

I believe that this is the purpose of knowledge.
of course people must also eat so they have to make some money too, but helping the others is allways good for everyone.
Think that the tool that helps you make your leaving is open source, right?
I live from using tools that somebody gave to me for free (php, mysql, linux....)
So I think that anyone who uses open source must contribute somehow.
BTW there is an institution called the open source foundation which gets millions of dollars of donations from big corporations where many talented programmers are working for making open source programs(linux is the top project of course)

This has started a very interesting discussion indeed.
When we share knowledge, we also get to know more. That should be the ROI for us. We do not need to measure everything in dollars because the price of knowledge is unknown.

"but at the end if evertything is Open source who will pay our bills?"
usually, programmers get to be famous for writing a useful program and giving it away as open source. and if you are famous, you will have lots of clients and you can ask for a high fee for your service.

So what you meant to say is 'Open source is free advertisement for the developers'?

Well if a program is open source, it doesn't mean that customizing it or using it is easy.
For example there are CRM applications that are open source (eg. SugarCRM) but companies who use it allways pay contracts with IT companies for support.
