I think this is a nice feature. I close a lot of sites just because of the way they look and the fonts they use, even if they have good content. If this feature is added to a site each user can choose their style making it all a pleasure to read the site. On the other hand I don't even stay on these sites long enough to find such e feature if they have one... I remember www.checksum.org having a cool set of skins that you could choose from when viewing the site. I think it was just switching between CSS stylesheets.
Edit: I just checked www.checksum.org and it looks like the skin-switching feature is no longer available. The site design has completely changed since my last visit. It almost seems like it has a new design every time I visit (which is not too often but still...) this site is run by a designer that just can't stop creating new designs for his site, even if the previous one looked as amazing as the next... You should check out the WayBackMachine archives for this site.
