Seems like all too often the pioneers forget where they have come from and stop creating.
I guess when you have as much money as the major Internet players do, it is just easier to let someone else create and innovate and then simply buy them out.

Exactly, but I think this way will lead to new leaders, and I hope there will be some new pioneers soon, as this google takeover at the web is not so good...

I keep wondering if everyone was asleep while g marched in and took over.
Trying to explain to someone in the older generation how PR, Adsense, and CPC, etc work - it all sounds so rediculous. The only one truly getting anything out of it are the folks who created this mess.
I remember the old days of Mosaic and before the Yahoos and Googles. True it was harder to find things, but what was to be had actually had value.
Never thought I would see the day when I was hoping MS would step in and make things change.

My opinion is a little different regarding the feauture.
I think that the social networks are able to make a better search engine. Microsoft is really behind, and that's why they are starting to make alliances with companies like Yahoo.
Now if you consider that Yahoo owns delicious, and delicious is about to make a new search engine in the feauture......

While I think the social networking sites will lead to better results and major changes; just ask anyone over at DP how they feel about that site name with a d and ending in g and they will disagree; myself included.
Like most good things, there are those who figure out how to exploit/ruin them.
I do think that MS is not the answer, I thought with the new OS, something really big would shake out but it seems to be a big nothing. I guess it's still a bit early on that front.
Looks like G is doing another dance today. Hopefully, it will be good news.
