I am working on a new blog. I've put several posts, but am still working out the kinks and how I want it to be formatted.

The question and poll should be self-explanatory.

So, any thoughts?

I use my blog only as an advertisment channel for my network of sites.

I think that a blog should not have much advertising, as a blog site should have another kind of relation with the visitor.

I have one AdSense block on my blog, but I'll probably take it off soon.

Seems like the consensus here so far is that 1. ads on blogs take away the feel of the site and 2. they don't earn much.

Have any of you read ProBlogger? Think under the right conditions (not sure what they would be) that a blog could be successfully monetized?

I think you need vistors first: a blog with less then 100 visitors will not result in respactable earnings

Today I found this list of blog/feed directories:

http://www.toprankresults.com/blog-submit-list.htm Visit through proxy

most of them look like that they are from value, I hope it will help my blog to get more visitors.

By the way the next problem is that people just reading you feeds, this way they don't need to visit your website so often.

For those who want to adsense-monetize their blog try a placement like this Visit through proxy. Check the ad between the article and the comments. It works great Smiley

I agree with that. Actually I think even 100 dailly visitors are not much. Maybe the point of adding ads is 500. Because with 500 dailly visitors you can make some small ammount of money, but most important you can test your placements.

Seems like the consensus here so far is that 1. ads on blogs take away the feel of the site and 2. they don't earn much.

Personally I don't like the fact that ProBlogger has so many ads, but this blog is a good example that there are blogs who make lots of money Smiley I agree that a blog can be monetized, but adsense and other ad networks are not necceserelly the best way to do it.

Let me show you an example. Olaf is a great web developer. Someone who reads his blog does it for that reason. The reader wants to know what a great developer think about the web development industry, work, and how he codes his sites.

While most users wont click on the ads in Olaf's blog, they will defenetly download a new php editor, or another relevant product that he will blog about.

So my opinion is that a blog can make more money by promoting quallity relevant products.

I haven't done this yet, but as my blog has no ads, except some links/posts that point to webdigity, I think it works fine as a promotion method for this forum.

by the way this ad is very easy to ingrate into each wordpress theme

just before this code:
Code:
<?php if ( $comments ) : ?>
