I has just saw this web 2.0 site ( bla.st ) which looks like a cool way to advertise a site.

Has anyone here used it before? Does it bring in any traffic?

I will go to take some rest now, and tomorrow I will propably create an account to see how it works.

It seems that it does not send any measurable traffic, but any - free - way to tag your site is always good for search engines Smiley

Hi there, Tim here from bla.st. Thanks for putting cards on - yeah it's not getting much traffic yet. Unlike most advertising sites going for a quick buck, I'm trying to build it up into a really useful directory, so you should gradually get more and more traffic as it becomes more popular.  I haven't had any coverage by any big sites or news organisations yet, but I expect it will sometime in the near future, so getting on now while it's small is a good thing! At the very least it will help with search engines as mentioned - I've specifically designed it to be search engine friendly.

I'm constantly looking for ways to promote/improve the site, if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Cheers,
Tim

Awesome thanks!

Yeah I found press releases work great - I sent one at launch to New Zealand newspapers and they wrote a story about it quite happily. I'll do more when I have something else to announce.

Hi Tim, (and welcome)

I think the ad-website boom is over (check all the other sites nothing has changed there anymore).
The blogosphere about these ads is also very "thin" at the moment Wink

I think your idea to create a SEO friendly directory is not wrong, another webdigity member Visit through proxy has created a successful web directory with the same promotion system

maybe it's an idea to offer a more expanded profile...

Hi, yeah you might be right there... it's tough selling the idea of an advertising site, let alone making it long term sustainable. I'm keen to try though Smiley

Yeah it really is!

I saw 100 lists a while ago, it looks good although shame it's not free to get on. I'm also going to be targeting bla.st at the event and short term advertising markets, for example, it would be good for promoting competitions, specials, sales, concerts, parades, fairs, fund-raising etc, so it will be more than just a website directory (in theory).

Yeah bla.st needs a better profile - it doesn't even email and contact details at the mo... another thing to add to the todo list.

Thanks heaps for your comments.

the site was free in the beginning, the problem with a successful free directory is, that you get at the end around 100 submissions a day.

This is a lot of work to moderate all these for free...
