Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced today the release of Java technology as free software under the GNU General Public License version two (GPLv2). The first portions of source code for Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) and Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) will be made available today.

That was the news of the day I guess.

With Java under the GNU license - same license with linux - we can wait for more from this technology.

Before a few hours Sun announced that they are going to “open” Java, their lot promising compiler.
Hope this new change will make Java more powerfull and maybe - why not - a leader in the OOP programming languages.
