I didn't foresee that my drop down box was going to get too wide for the page design. It goes wider than the set design and I am wondering if anyone had any "usability" ideas or suggestions to getting this drop down smaller. Maybe I should deploy a different method altogether?

The problem is on this page... http://www.wineography.com/cellar_wine_search.htm?wine=all&page=1&search=search Visit through proxy

Thanks,
wineo

I don't think that you should change it, but if you want to, you can try make smaller the words inside it, or use a radio button set (but this will make the page bigger)

Yes it is a long list, maybe making the font sizes slightly smaller will help...

There is another option too. I will tell you an example :

Instead of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot

you can display Cab. Sau., Merl., Cab. Fran., Petit Verdot

I am not sure if you like this way, but if you do it is very easy to be done with php

OK i have made the select input's font smaller. It only just fits in now... hope no one puts in a longer wine blend! Fixed for now...

Thanks Nikolas! Sometimes you need someone else to show you a simple solution. I will abbreviate some too.
