Just got a phonecall from my server guy that the server I wanted to order is out of stock, and now I have to look again for a server.
Can you guys recommend me a dedicated server company? I am looking for a good deal in hardware but of course the company should be a good one(no downtimes, high speed network, etc.)

based in Europe or America? For our clients we use both http://www.mediatemple.net/webhosting/dv/ which is not a single box but a grid based system meaning far less chance of system failure.
or more traditional http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated.shtml we have 3 accounts with them 2 dedicated boxes and a resale which we use for all sorts of things. Support is very good via IM as well s email even better with a dedicated server.

I think us based is the best as most of our traffic is from US.
Till now I have checked the companies you wrote, plus a few more, and I think I am going to order a server from layeredtech. They seem to have the best offers (and they have a very fast network)
100 MBit data transfer speed as standard. For 100 simultaneous full website views of a typical 100 kByte website it will take 1 second, on a normal 10mbit connection it will take 10 seconds.
This costs me £81.00 per month, but is well worth it IMHO
You can get a much better deal from them now as prices for hosting seem to drop all the time.

yeah 1&1 has really good prices, in Germany they have also unlimited bandwidth.
But I remember that Tim is not really a Fan of 1&1

I have read lots of horror stories about 1&1 but I did not read these until I changed servers!
I have had zero problems with them, but I once contacted support and it took them a while to reply to my question. The host I had before this had 24/7 online support, but they needed it as their server was always crashing!
When I signed up I did it through 1and1 .co.uk but my server is based in Germany. It seems very fast- hopefully I will get enough hits at once to give it a real test !

I suppose this is a good price for managed servers but I don't need a managed service
the problem is that you can't order a customized server (for example with more ram or a bigger HD)
but for most of the websites they should be cool...
Ah right!
I think that you can upgrade once you have a server with them, I have been offered upgrades in the past, but I am not sure if they would be what Nik is looking for. The servers are also not in the US, unless you go with 1&1 .com and their reliabiltiy might be poor.

don't get me started on 1&1 they use to be such a good company Now there support sucks, reliability is appalling, their SLA are a waste of time and have more get out causes then a lawyers lunch party. But the big unforgivable reason is they insist on lying to customers here in the UK by advertising uk hosting, which they just don't do the servers are in germany even the dedicated and vps.
Ultimately your paying about 20%/30% more to be with a company that is below average and if you want to know where the extra 20% your paying goes pick up any computer magazine.

1 and 1 were ok for a while and then the site started to go down for long periods of time. One day it was 6 hours, a week later it was 8 hours. Each time I had to contact their support to get things fixed and it took them ages. They once upgraded the server platform and stopped the arcade and forum from working, then they could not fix it and I had to get a webmaster to fix it!
My opinion of them has changed considerably and in the last 4 months that my server was with them I was ringing them 12 times per month, and I only ever called them when the site was down!
