nrnmkr,
of course article writers, webmasters just all of us here doing a lot to earn some money with adsense (me too), having a website to earn money is not bad. But if this is only the reason than it really suxxs for all the internet user, adsense... everyone.
I hate only the websites with all the non-unique articles in a database people bought for a few $, these people adding the images ONLY to mislead the visitor

In another thread, Nikolas suggested that my implementation of images and ads was against G's TOS.
My site had an image with a couple of stars in a color scheme that matched my site and the words "Sponsored Link".
An email to G, led to my being informed that Nik was indeed correct as G considered the image misleading.
So, after a couple of emails with G, my take on this is that ANY image near an ad block is going to be classified as against the TOS as misleading (common sense seems to be out of this equation - would people really have clicked on the link expecting to see 3 red, white and blue stars on the advertisor's site?).
Why in the world they simply couldn't state that they are not going to accept the use of any images totally escapes me. Long story short, regardless of how vaguely worded their blog and TOS are; G does not want any images used near/around the ad blocks.
ps. Thank you Nik for getting me to look into this further.

No worries Michelle, and thanks for that kiss
Some times the support team in google is a little misleading. I mean you can talk with someone who is new maybe and tell you something, and then send the same question and get a different answer.
I guess that we have to be very careful with adsense terms...
