Recently when I have been making new pages for my site I have been putting the page title as for example-

"Ultimate Handyman: Plumbing" for a page about plumbing.

Is this a good idea or does it not make a difference to seo, should I just put "plumbing" or does it not matter that I put "Ultimate Handyman: Plumbing"?

Thanks in advance

In most cases I use something like :

page title - site name(with general keywords)

but I am not sure if this is the best thing to do. Maybe you get better CTRs in the SERPs if you just use the title of the page without something generic.

The title is a powerful on page resource so ideally you want it to be descriptive, unique and full of keywords

Now if your site name is a keyword thats cool and if your page has non descript branding then it may need the site name in the title to tell the user which site they are on, a good tip is to make the title different from the h1 heading.

So Title
My Subject - From the Plumbing and heating experts
H1 Tag
[verb/adverb][subject]
So [introduction/developing/running with] [my subject] the H1 is a good place for a name as well so
Title: Pipe system drainage from the plumbing and heating experts
h1 heading: Developing a pipe system for drainage by Tim Nash
