I was wondering if you knew if widgets, gadgets, or specific urls on your site that can return traffic to you.
For example, my hosting company offers clocks, bells, whistles, counters, guesbooks, bloggers, etc etc. Is there any benefit of using one from another url vs. my control panel with my hosting? Can it bring some traffic? Does Googlebot look at these toys as links going out to the web?
Another example would be web stats - if you use a web stat service widget - i use http://main.addfreestats.com/ - they list you in their directory. Are there any others that may generate traffic?
I've heard that Alexa also rewards traffic from the widget but I can't confirm this.

You are asking if a service that you use can bring traffic, or if you host a service?
In the first case I don't think many services can bring you traffic, except from blog services like wordpress.com.
On the other side hosting a free service can bring you some traffic
I'm testing the widget for a month and see what happens.
It would be cool if it worked even slightly - traffic is traffic. Then my next question would be - are there other widgets I could post to drive some traffic in the similar manner?

if the widgets that you offer is placed into another site using javascript, search engine cant read it so to them it will not count as an inbound link for your site, but it can still be useful as a link to your site for surfers of those websites where your widgets are.
