Recently I've started a blog about monetization techniques Visit through proxy. I think this site worths promoting as it is converting very well the low traffic that it has now, but as I am not really familiar with blogs I thought to ask my fellow webdigiters about how to promote it.

Do you know some ways to promote specifically a blog? Are there any "must" sites to submit your blog?

For the moment I haven't done anything besides adding a list of sites to ping and adding some good - at least I think it is Smiley - content.

I think the only things that works is to partner with other blogs. I tried a lot lot to promote my blog but nothing will really work. 50-100 unique visitors was the max until I started to write tutorials to get visitors from the tutorial sites. I think its easier to promote non blog sites...

I would disagree a good blog will see a decent amount of visitors, couple of things.

Trackbacks - are your friend, link to other bloggers stories, choose your bloggers carefully aim for bloggers you enjoy and are relevant and have a little traffic, and link to them. 2 reasons most bloggers are egotistical and so will see the referal in their logs and take a look and middle level bloggers may well write a return linked post, or at least a comment or two, two if they use trackbacks you get a free link on their site.

Get yourself a feed reader software or script and subscribe to 5 or 6 bloggers, look for a friends, similar interests etc. Subscribe to their blogs so you know what they are talking about and continue the conversation. I often find I leave comments on people blog linking to a post I did on a different blog.

Standard social media side of things, write a couple of tutorials and stumble and digg etc.

Find some one who is willing to let you guest post on their blog and vice versa ask some one to guest on yours.

Nice tips. Regarding the comment/trackback thing, I will add something that may help more. If you are using web2announcer Visit through proxy you can easily find high traffic blogs - as they are all at the social bookmark's home pages - so the trackback traffic can be more than just a few visitors. BTW I used this with webdigity many times, and got some interesting results.

Now back to the subject of blog promotion. I think a blog is depending much from the subscribers it has. For instance if there are 1000 people that read your feed, you have about 1.000 instant unique visitors to your blog when you write a new article, right? So an important factor is to have a very visible subscribe button. As there are so many blogs on each and every market (thousand of blogs are created every day) the only way to achieve this seems to be the social media.

I mean that you have to optimize your content for social bookmarks and write some articles that can reach the homepage of any of those sites. So my target at this point is find some subjects to write about and achieve that. Anyway as my time is very limited right now I guess this experiment will last long. If you have anything to suggest please go ahead, I will really appreciate any feedback Smiley
