I understand the whole duplicate content issue and could see where someone else can use a different URL to point to my site like the examples given; but I have no idea how they made the URL work and how to fight it.

In another forum someone posted a link to this: http://www.webforumz.com/webforumz-cafe/21390-seo-security-advisory-check-your-sites.htm Visit through proxy

Could someone please educate me how this works and how to fight it? Do I need to worry?

LOL, I am sorry to be rude but this is BS...

Google is not giving weight to external links that don't have internal links, so it is really hard to make this work.

On the other hand duplicate content IS NOT affecting the SERPs. Google decides which of the duplicate versions is the original and keeps only this for the SERPs.

Additionally if your site has RSS or any other feeds which are crawlable and indexed by other sites (eg. technorati) it is almost impossible to have such troubles. On forums an archived version can also help as it give more links to the actual URLs that you are using.

So in general I don't see that as a threat, and your competitor should waste a lot of high weight links to make you that "damage" Smiley

EDIT: Some typos

Trial and Error my two best teachers Cool
