I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a VPS? What are the pro's and cons of a VPS? And most important what kind of VPS would I need to run a proxy website?

I am not sure about the pros
The bad things regarding VPS are :
1) You have limited resources 2) If your site uses more CPU than the hosting company allows they may take your server down 3) In general VPS are slower than real servers

Do you know of any place that rents dedicated servers for $50 per month with out a setup fee? I really dont want to go over budget. If I can see some sort of return then it would be worth it but I really would like to keep the costs down as low as possable.

$30 a month is nice but the $69 set up fee is hefty. I could build a server for another $150. Maybe I am better off building my own server and colocating it .

Forget the VPS, most of the companies didn't allow / like proxies.
Learned you need at least $100 a month for a dedicated server if you run proxies on that machine (you can earn $100 a week with 10 proxies)

Dedicated server = cost I'm afraid its that simple as a company we co-locate 4 boxes and have 3 dedicated servers our monthly outgoings are just over the $1k mark our usage is well into the terrrabytes with nearly 200 sites of various types sitting on our network of 7 servers, and we still use normal hosting services by media temple and dreamhost for a good percentage of our low bandwidth intensive clients.
Since your starting out I suggest finding a cheap supplier but make sure they have no hidden costs for breach of contracts, and when you grow simply move.

WoW 1k per month for server bills. Thats like $142 per server avg. I bet your income is at least 10x+ your server bills.

that's primarily clients so most of that is break even but I have to pay 6 wage bills each month and we each can afford to live well enough though remember we have a diverse range of sites including nichr sies, small proxy network, clients, directories and 2 ecommerce sites.

Sounds like you have a very nice set up over there. I do plan to make many different websites myself. My goal is to make enough money for my wife and I to never have to work again. Who knows if it will work out but its allways nice to set a goal.
