It's time to use PHP5!

« on: Jan 26, 2007, 10:54:13 AM »

Since a few days you can see that there are the first PageRank updates on some google servers.

Do you noticed strange things like bigger changes on pages you have never accepted?

Like me, I got some some PR5 rankings on new websites (3-6 month old) with not so much inbound links and also medium Pageranks on new internal pages.
One of them has no direct inbound link but has a decent traffic from Google, this page got a PR 3 while the mainpage has changed from PR1 to PR3

what are your special/strange changes?

check also this thread:
http://www.webdigity.com/index.php/topic,5753.0.Finally+we+have+a+new+pagerank+update.html Visit through proxy

and if you need to query the google servers you should try this tool:

I was wondering the same thing. It appears that google has changed the way that they calculate pagerank.

For instance webdigity's pagerank service Visit through proxy is getting a pagerank 5 from 0 (it didn't appeared in the site since the previous update) while the homepage of the site is getting 4 from 5.

In the past updates it was very unrare to have a higher value to an internal page than the value you got in the homepage.

I think that google has stoped giving value to the internal links regarding pagerank, or lowered the value of that.

just checked another site:

www.php4all.eu Visit through proxy

the posts on this blog are older but the website is new. While there is only one inbound link from a PR5 site to the latest blog post (internal link) the website has a PR4 after this update (coming from 0)

EDIT: all internal blog pages having a PR too, (first level PR3, second level PR2)

... after all it looks like that a pagerank is given for websites which are higher listed in the SERP's of google.

I know from a new PR5 website that two pages got a lot of visits from google, both have a PR4 all others doesn't have a PR (pages are from the same age)

Some of the internal pages have got a PR4 on myContentWebsite.com even though there are very few inbound links for those pages. So either the links from other pages are affecting the PR of internal pages or as olaf said Google has started giving more importance to SERP's

After a few days there are still some Google servers showing the old (or none) Pagerank value.

is this update now over?

Bigdady Google algorithm update is really changing the search results.
A good site gets an uplift but a so so site goes to supplementary, which is Google hell.

But you guys are looking good, you have internal PR, so I would not worry about it.

If the incoming links you have are inside content of related web sites, then you don't have to worry on any Google's algorithm update Wink

Nikolas, quiet true.
Google devalues the links from forums.
Also links from signiture are not counted at all.
It is best to get links from some good old fashion free directories.
Like ODP and others.
But it is getting harder to find them around.

Make sure if you get a link from a directory it doe not use rel="nofollow"

Also check out the directory structure itself if some links use nofollow it is for paid link and with nofollow is for a free llink or the other way around!
I would totally stay a way from nofollow directories free or paid. Waste of time.
Also if a directory has Spammy links Google will not count the vote.

So a good directory preferably free with no nofollow is the best link.

I don't agree with you. Directory links have no weight at all. ODP links used to carry some weight, but I am not sure if they still do.

Now you just need links from content rich pages. I mean from articles that talk for something that is relevant to your site's subject.

BTW I didn't know there are no follow directories. I mean what's the purpose of such a site? Smiley

The porpous of nofollow directory is to hoard PR while they sell text links.

ODP is not as strong as it use to be. Directories do carry long term weight.

Articles only live short time. But relevent ones will cary weight much longer

Nikolas I put the domain extracter tld script that I got from you guys for good use.

I set it up to extract absolute urls from HTML document.

http://www.travelinasia.net/phsdl/extract_all_absolute_urls_from_page.php Visit through proxy

I am going to give you guys credit with a link as soon as I move the project scripts of the forum domain to the project rightful domain.

Yeah the script is good to pick the Spammy urls of a forum, because they are absolute, and the forum urls are relative so they do not get picked.

Then I just go to Spam domains update script paste the babies in there and they all go to the database for the filter.

I will try to integrate all the modules in the admin mod of the forom posts, so I can click one botton and the job will be done.

Sort of as an airplain cockpit. Smiley

Okay, back to Google PR --->
So if I press Alt F4... What?

I don't agree that some links don't have any value,
some do have great value some don't have that much, but all links have SOME value. (could be negative, just kidding ;-) )

google.com/webmasters > links
counts all the links whether they are from Signature, free directories, social networks, blog posts, and anything else you can imagine...

All of mine remained the same except one who moved one step up... whats odd, is that my highest traffic site and more indexed pages dropped and stayed too low for a pretty long time now...

I think you missunderstood. There is no any pagerank update on progress right now. You should wait 2-3 weeks more for the next one Smiley
