« on: Jun 03, 2007, 04:12:20 pm »

I noticed at blogcatalog.com this kind of links:

http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?http://www.webdigity.com

should they do that to get (faster) a higher Alexa rank?

What's HTML?

What do you mean ? is it a question of ethics ?

One could just install the alexa widget sitewide and get their alexa considerably higher

I am not sure that what they are doing actually does anything.  Its only one extra count for each visitor, they could have achieved more than that if they installed the alexa widget on their site sitewide

That's really strange. I know people who faking their rankings, but as far as I know they do it by simulating the toolbar with a script.

I don't know exactly the method to do this, but it wont be difficult if you have a sniffer and know how to use Curl.

Of course there are already made scripts for this task, but I don't see a reason to use one....

Andy Beard on Linking Mistakes
Quote
Seriously, that isn't a very good idea.
It is fair enough sticking an Alexa badge on your site, or encouraging your users to use useful Firefox plugins such as Search Status which now includes Compete reporting as well.
I can't see how or why using their internal system would help though as Andy says in his article it won't hurt in terms of search engines the redirect is a 301, but would you want to click on such links?

To increase your Alexa ranking install any of Alexa's Widgets Sitewide
 http://alexa.com/site/site_stats/signup

You will see results within a week.  I am not saying it will skyrocket your traffic count but,
Because every visitors is counted by alexa (whether they have their alexa toolbar on their browser or not) your count will definetelly increase.

It depends also on who else has installed it, if everyone installs this on their website then noones Alexa rankings will change ; unless their traffic really changes

Hope it helps

But I know that installing the google site search on your site would definitely increase the amount of page results you will have on the SE... so it could be the same principle as Alexa?

I am afraid that's not possible my friend. Maybe you misunderstood the saved queries functionality.

it's a bit vague really, that's why I'm asking for clarification... Although I tried the method before with a dead site, a friends one that never got SEO... I installed the ror google sitemap file on the root folder and installed a personalized google search for his pages, the indexed pages seems to jump a bit based on the stats... but it's better if you actually have strong one way links... but it did help somewhat to get his paged indexed faster, and "site" queries from google returned more pages than not having it on the first place... Or maybe it's coincidence?

It should be a coincidence. Google can't know your stats.

I mean based on stats as I looked at it, the hits and page views increased, not that google looked at the site stats, it's more on google indexing the page with the sitemap ror much faster with the search script plugged in than without...
