the path to wisdom begins with humble ignorance

OK hi guys this one should be a easy one:

I am totally new to PHP I have installed it on a windows 2003 server running with iis 6. It seems to be working fine but whenever there is an error in the scrpt the page just comes up blank which is not very helpful. I assume there is some way to turn on error reporting I just have no clue.

Can some point me to a tutorial or tell me what I need to to get some errors showing up on screen.

I use the XAMPP environment myself for programming/testing and debugging application and code in php/mysql,

It can be downloaded free from apachefriends.org and you will probably find a lot of support here and elsewhere on the internet because its an open source project.  Give it a try ...

For windows server IIs I am afraid you will not find much support here.

what is IIS?

Quote
Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 is a powerful Web server that provides a highly reliable, manageable, and scalable Web application infrastructure for all versions of Windows Server 2003. IIS helps organizations increase Web site and application availability while lowering system administration costs. IIS 6.0 supports the Microsoft Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI) with automated health monitoring, process isolation, and improved management capabilities.

ok I remember there was something like that Cheesy

even if you don't use xampp, the setups for the latest php, mysql and apache are very easy to install.

anf forget IIS, a lot of features from apache need to paid if your use IIS (f.e. mod_rewrite)

This is just a directive in your php.ini about error reporting. You don't need to change web server for that, but php works better on Apache anyway Smiley

The directives are :

Code:
display_errors = 1;
display_startup_errors = 1;
error_reporting = E_ALL;

Trial and Error my two best teachers Cool
