in my experience, digg users hate sites with adsense displayed on it.

can you share which social bookmarking sites users are potential ad clickers? so we can submit our pages there for increased income?

All the social bookmarks I know are not good for ads, and CTR.

But the purpose is to get links, and social bookmarks help to this.

In my experience a home page entry on Digg can increase the overall traffic up to 20-30% or even more for non established sites. So with that in mind I guess it is cool to be on Digg even if this traffic does not convert well.

I think most of the clicks are because the visitor doesn't like what he see or he has noticed an interesting ad.

btw. I noticed the CTR for blogs is in general very low

StumbleUpon can work really well, especially if you design a landing page that clearly mentions "Stumblers".. doesn't contain Adsense, and has a
really interesting article or better, yet, a video clip.

Yes stumblers can be a bit like egotistical at time, but they are appalling conversions for selling stuff, remember stumblers are not in a buying mood they are literally just bored and surfing.
But they do follow links so Affiliate links work well with them particularly contextual and inline links

so stumbleupon does not hate sites with adsense?

thats not what I said, stumblers are surfing just hitting the stumble button if they stay on your site they are great at clicking links but most will jump straight away which lowers you ecpm significantly given that so few stay even if that minority are high adsense clickers (they are not they are about norm) their clicks were devalued by the hundreds who didn't stay long enough.

What stumblers are great for is links in posts or articles related to an affiliate scheme.

Its not black and white like that, if you get to the front page of Digg your site will bring in revenue, but not from the diggers but from the back links you get which then bring regular readers in Smiley who will click your links.

So using social media is about getting links from other sites not about ad clicks.

I wouldn't load a landing page (if using StumbleUpon) with adwords.. I would instead, feature a video clip, and an affiliate link (cloaked) to a product
or service you are promoting..  Stumblers are surfing in rotation, a lot of them don't stop to really check out a site unless something instantly (I'm talking
first few seconds of their landing on your page) captures their attention.. Video clips work well.

I do use adsense on many sites, but not ones that's primary traffic is social bookmarking instead I tend to follow what Jake said choose an affiliate program, though their is no need to cloak it stumblers rarely look where they are going anyway. The key is again as Jake said keep them on the page, if you can catch a stumbler for more then a few second your chance is much higher of them clicking that link.

But such techniques only really work well with content.
