Hey guys, I was just wondering what you guys thought about Forum SEO. I am just starting out with SEO, and as you could guess, I own a forum. Is there anything that should be done differently, when optimizing a forum?

Thanks,

The same principle applies for SEO on regular(non-forum) type sites, although you must also take note that the forum topics will get indexed and you must use meaningful Sub-Forum titles as well...

Forums are a tougher niche to market.  Getting traffic to it is one thing but enticing your visitors to register and participate is a whole new different ball game Wink But SEO wise, it is optimized the same way you optimize other sites.

That's a bold statement. Do you have evidence to share? Otherwise that seems like slander to me.

Well, deliberate or not, this is a pretty good topic and something I'm interested in.  So basically to promote a particular forum to the point of registering and participating, one must go through the general "steps" as far as optimizing it on a search engine.  Just speculating here, but would it not be a more appetizing place to register if there are more users there to begin with?  It would be a good idea to market it in a "beta" sense first giving the first wave of users more access than when it gets launched, right?  What else can one do to garner presence to a forum besides a "pre-launch" period?

Yes, they are also real persons behind the posts, and they actually answer their own questions and then link drop all over. Was giving the benefit of the doubt first however...
