It's time to use PHP5!

« on: Oct 18, 2007, 04:13:56 PM »

Hi,

Tomorrow I get my  new laptop and I decided to install Ubuntu on this machine Smiley
the bad thing is I need to dual boot since I have to use some windows only applications (I checked already to use wine but there are problems)

I found this great guide I gonna use to install both OS:
http://www.howtoforge.com/dual_boot_windows_xp_vista_ubuntu_feisty Visit through proxy

next I want to install some webdev environment like this one:
http://quanta.kdewebdev.org/index.php Visit through proxy

but this is a KDE based application and Ubuntu comes by default with the gnome desktop.

what next switch to KDE?

I think I can switch that way?

Code:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

is this the way to do it?

another question, how about the drivers for new hardware and ubuntu?

how does it work with your laptops (you bought the past month)?

Hmm, I have no clue how things like that get done in Ubuntu.

Regarding the hardware, it is automatic. As long as you update your software it is ok, at least I haven't done anything special for HW in the past

I notoced that I'm able to install quanta through the Gnom shell, I thought I need KDE installed to run quanta, is there something I misunderstood?
