My first article was recently accepted into EzineArticles.com and I was given expert status. Other webmasters say EzineArticles is the only article directory one needs to submit to since it is very popular. Has anyone have experience with article directory submissions? Is it an effective site promotion strategy?

I had success with article submission two years ago, but I think it no longer works.

I tried out article submitting software a while ago and it worked surprisingly well at the time (almost 2 years ago) you can read my review here Visit through proxy The software I tried is Article Submitter Pro and they have a free demo version here Visit through proxy The demo is the complete product, without any limitations that can be used for 3 days.

I'm not sure how well this link building tactic works today, but if you want to try it out you should try to use some software to aid you in submitting your articles and get them on as many article sites as you can.

will do. google is already sending my article site an average of 200 uniques per day, so a further increase in the traffic it sends would mean that it still an effective link building strategy. and of course there is also the direct traffic from the links in the author's bio.

thanks for the advice. i already have a similar software for submitting articles to 138 directories but i only submitted to seven popular ones for fear of being accused of spamming.

which article directories did they submit your articles? did you check the article directories to find out if your articles were really there?

sure, try it. I didn't use this promotion type because I can't see the improvement and I use my resources a diff. way (posting my articles to my own network)

That's right. In our "age" articles should be in your site and work as link bait. So instead of syndicating them, you put them on your site and submit it to social networks.

This can bring in much more traffic and links.

But still I think article submission does not heart !!!

I have had successes with directory submission even though people might think they don't work ... I do it for the long run ... the search engines see the anchor text and raise your position in SERPs ... I assume it can work the same in the article submissions !!! but I would not expect much immediate traffic changes ....

And you can still keep your best articles for you own site, as Nikolas is suggesting ...

This can bring in much more traffic and links.

Something I've been experimenting with is posting articles (with links) to Associated Content.

The articles I post for links are typically overview articles - so I'll write up an overview of a topic that I've written a few articles about on my own site, with links to my own articles for more information.

This way I'm getting some backlinks, the content on AC is unique (I didn't just copy/paste an article from my own site), and I'm not wasting good, original articles.  Also, I know that AC is crawled frequently, so I don't have to worry if my article and links will quickly show up in Google.

Also, if the article itself gets some traffic, I get paid for it through AC.
