I plan to start a referral program on my site soon with prizes each month for the person with the most referrals. I am sure that this will spread the site awareness very well!

I am not sure if this could work, but of course you can try it and see the results.
Actually I can not understand how this will work. If you can share some info and maybe we will be able to help more.
A tip that I can give you for starting an affiliate program, is to start it only if you allready have a lot of members and traffic. Because otherwise it won't be fine to have an affiliate system with no members at all

What I am doing is starting a section for creating wine tasting clubs, whether they are online clubs or existing clubs moving online. All these members will be able to invite people to join the site and do the same. THe more you get to join the more chance you have of wining... I will see how it goes. You are right though, there should be more members though. Hopefully the tasting clubs part will drive more traffic!

Interesting
I like that you are in a niche market, and this can be a huge benefit, if you can market it well.
Propably while you are implementing your affiliate system you can spend some time bringing traffic to your site.
Off topic : Your site looks great, but I think that you must swicth the forum's layout to your main site's as it is the one and only non proffesional view of the site

Thanks for pointing that out! If I can ever find the time to style my forum and improve the search engine friendliness I would. Maybe a should start a competition to find the best design for that??? ;o)
