It seems that Google will soon have a real competitor. Today Microsoft has launched a $US44.6 billion bid to buy the Yahoo group. I believed this would happen last year, but I guess a transaction of that size can't be arranged in one month or so Smiley

Feel free to share your thoughts regarding this here Smiley

 Cry Bummer.
I try to stay away from MS when I'm online because I'm tired of seeing the MS label everywhere, and they seem so detached from what the public needs and wants are, we constantly have to conform to what they offer instead of the other way around.

They (MS) are trying to get a better grasp on the web since their OS is failing and open source is finally stepping up IMO. We are seeing more and more tasks we do on PC's web based instead of on the PC itself so this is a strategic move for the companies security for the future.  We're going back to PC's just being a terminal to the server which is the web.

I think its going to create some healthy competition
since Yahoo has become a little stagnant in the recent years

Maybe that alliance its going to create the path to a new revolutionary search engine
like it was google a few years back.

A year ago Microsoft approached Yahoo and Yahoo said it was not the right time. Now, with Yahoo stock taking a big hit and a recession around the corner, MS is offering them a lifeline and virtually rescuing Yahoo. It's a HUGE 62% premium on their closing share price on Thursday. If this isn't the right time for Yahoo, I don't know what is. Sell, Yahoo, sell.
