Vive la France...
Did anyone notice that Google France doesn't give a dime about social bookmarking, at least not more than a dime? I'm just about to finish a website in French about - what else - scuba diving on Koh Tao. http://plongeekohtao.com/ I added social bookmarking buttons to all posts and pages and we bookmarked some of them. We also got quite some diggs and bookmarks from visitors.
Now the funny(or rather not so funny) thing is that on all Google search machines but Google.fr the bookmarks are on position 1,2 and 3 for the main key phrase "plongee koh tao" and the 4th position is a website linking to my new site as well, while the actual website is on page 3. (that by itself bothers me a bit)
On Google France there is not A SINGLE bookmark listed and the website is on page 5 or 6! I than noticed that there are only very few social bookmarks listed at Google France for any search term!
What's up with the French Google? And what's wrong with my WordPress blog?? Ar are we seeing a Google test running life? Sounds more like it. Social bookmarking lets users and web masters and site owners directly take a huge influence on search results. Has it become too much influence and Google is trying to find a way out with new algorithms? But we can't blame all on google and i made a note about those findings for further investigation.
So i ran a second test and entered the search term "Top 3 Free Web Hosting Accounts" at Google.fr and found my digg on Nr.1 like everywhere else. This fact confused me more than a bit because it brought me back to square 1 and the question: What's wrong with my blog?? Why does it get stuck on page 5 or 6 on Google France and on all other 'Googles' on page 2 or 3? Why does a French language site rank higher in Google International than in Google France?
I anybody here can see the obvious and i just can't see the forest because of the many trees, please enlighten me!

That will be next on the program. I thought i could maybe avoid that.... Skip it so to speak. My French isn't all that good. But... rules are rules, French or not. But then there is still this unexplainable lack of diggs and bookmarks in the French search results. I mean 1-3 everywhere except France? There must be something additional blocking my way, or maybe links are just overrated in the French algorithms. That would also be an interesting finding. It's just bothering me because i have another French website to do next month.

I'd say i got that fish on land! Since today the site has it's well earned Nr.1 & 2 spot on all Googles ... but.. the French one... Told you that thing is slowmo... 640 backlinks on the yahoo counter and still.... not enough. Don't worry though, me and my client can both live with position 4 on google.fr for now. On Google Int.http://plongeekohtao.com/ takes up 60% of the first page for it's main search term now; all links and bookmarks counted in, . One more score on my belt and a new trophy on my wall of fame I love my job!
