When not running Venture Skills I'm an associate (part time) lecturer at 2 universities I tend to teach Artificial intelligence and information retrieval which is the academic equivalents of SEO Smiley though obviously we focus more on how the search engines work and the mathematics behind it along with building our own smaller scale engines and bots. I originally started teaching IBM Domino many years ago

Certainly a fun one, I don't teach as much as I like these days this current semester I'm only teaching one module Sad mix of time commitments and because of the course requiring a good mathematics understanding I have limited student numbers.

AI you say? can it also be adapted to mechatronics and robotics to make smart machines like robotic vacuum cleaners? or is it a different area?

Its a similar area, the robotic vacuum cleaner is an example of logic system, its not really an AI system as it doesn't learn or adapt the route, it simply continues until it is presented with an object or predefined limit. However a more sophisticated vacuum that worked out the route it would take around the house (the travelling salesmen problem) and adapt to a change would be a good example.

Hey, guys, can't let you have all the fun.

AI, wow, remember taking a class in that, uhm, well, let's just leave out how many years ago it was.

I was once interviewed to work for a robotics company. Thought I was finally going to get to work with the really cool IT stuff. Never was told why they didn't hire me, I suspect it was because the job was in Boston and I'm from the southern US and they just didn't see us as a fit. Even with the nice $alary, I wasn't sure I could even afford to live in that area, so it probably worked out for the best anyway.

But, if I had gotten that job, I probably never would have met all the great folks here.

This is cool, another thread like the post contest.
