So I have been submitting my articles to the major article directories, I think I have a pretty good tactic, but I still haven't seen any traffic from it. Is article submission the way to go, or have you guys found something else out to generate traffic?

No, article marketing is old news. Try link bait, and instead of giving your content for free, make it good enough to make it to the front page of social bookmarks

I just started a webmaster wiki today. If you have content that is webmaster related you could post it there. Then just add your link at the bottom as a reference to the source or author. Link to wiki: http://www.bestwebimage.com/wiki/
Pretty much every topic is open being that I have yet to announce it, and only one page is done.

A lot of top internet marketers swear by article marketing. What have you got against it?

Nothing really, but it does not have the power it used to have before 1-2 years, especially after google started to penalize duplicate content. At this moment besides giving your article to a strong site, there is no value to giving it for free in all the article directories as there is no link juice from them anymore.

Re linkbait:
I have heard of some amazing successes from brilliant linkbaiting. Recently, there was that SEO company (I think it was Cornwall SEO?) gaining thousands of backlinks for a client by writing a hoax story that was believed by many journos and editors and run on countless highly ranked news sites.
Using such tactics can be hugely effective, but is morally dubious, I reckon.

I think Article submission is good for the site.If your article provides the information to visitors then definitely your article will be popular. Basically it shows the quality of your site.

I recommend using article submission strategically. Personally, I only post articles that are not listed anywhere else on any other site. Also, I post them when I am focusing on that subject for a month on my blog. What has really helped my reputation and built a global grand for my practice, is writing articles for other reputable sites. These areticles, a month or two later can then be sent to submission sites.
If you want to brand yourself on the net, write great content, get people to promote great content, then find a way to monetize it. My blog has earned me $150 online, but offline it is helping net my mid six figure income.
