Yahoo Directory VS 8k Directory Submissions

I've been having a serious dilemma trying to figure out how to spend my advertising budget. Like most people I haven't got a large budget so I am trying to figure out where to spend it to get the biggest impact. I found this company that will submit my website to 8,000 directories for $250, I tried it with 1,450 Directories on another website, but I am not getting a lot of traffic. Should I just spend the $299 to get this new website into the Yahoo Directory. What's your experience?

I would prefer to spend that money on a professional written/distributed press release. It can bring in much more traffic than a directory submission (even if that submission is to the yahoo directory)

I have actually heard lots of good things about the yahoo directory but myself I consider it VERY expensive.

Many of the submission companies have their own networks of directories and your x,xxx submissions could be only to sites they own. Many of these directory farms have been banned by Google for duplicate content and otherwise penalized. Whenever you talk to a submission company ask them about the sites they will be submitting to and ask for a list. Some of the more reputable firms even put their lists on their websites.

Also ask for an accounting of which directories they submitted to. I have a crafting directory and quite often see submissions that are from these companies for sites that have nothing to do with crafts. There's no chance the site submitted will get a listing on my site, yet, that is counted as one of the submissions made.

I would always go for quality over quantity...any site promising 8000 links is NOT going to be giving you quality links, most likely they're on a spammy site network with no pr that isn't indexed.

I would also rather do directory submission myself than entrust it to a software or a third party.  Links don't generally hurt a site.  But qulaity should always be considered.  I consider a link to be quality if it helps in my SEO and give me direct targeted traffic in the long run.

I agree .Though it will cost a lot time and energy .I 'd rather do it by myself .It is more clean and worthwhile.
