This morning I was trying with a client to change
contact information on one of His domains registered with NS
(the info that comes up on Whois)

The need came up since we wanted to create an SSL certificate
for that domain and wanted to have all the details match
that of the business and the request would not go through
since the info we were inputting did not MATCH those of the
DOMAIN

His NS account DID have the correct addresses and numbers
for his business but all his registered domains always ended up with

Name of His Business
   ATTN: DOMAINNAME.COM
   c/o Network Solutions
   P.O. Box 447
   Herndon, VA.  20172-0447

And could not find anywhere to change these information
but PROMINENTLY placed was an offer for ENHANCED
BUSINESS LISTING for $12/year

What a ripoff !!!

We decided to insert this info above to get passed
the request for the SSL (and we did)
BUT later on we received an email that said
that the info on the SSL did not MATCH that of HIS
business !!!!!

Now we have to be calling their support numbers to clear up
the situation

has anybody had any experience with NS ??

I know I know who in their right mind would pay
4 times the regular price for a .COM Huh

My client did ....

That account has whats called Private Registration on.  That hides their whois info and displays a generic NS one.  They have to turn that off.

I am pretty sure that not all his domains are "PRIVATE REGISTRATION" enabled
but maybe one or two

I am going to check again but I did not seem to find anywhere a way to
edit the contact info for any of the domains

If you do a whois search on the domain and it is showing the NS address for Virgina that domain has the private registration turned on.  You can edit the who is info but it won't show up with that turned on.

To edit whois info though

Thanks I will try that

I take it you are an employee of NS

Why did NS send us an email that the SSL does not match the domain details
but the SSL request went through ??

I actually have just purchased an SSL cert from them before so I know a little bit about the process.  In terms of why you got that error, can't really say though but normally this is due to the automated process behind the scenes running the process.  At least that is what their support had told me in the past as I had the same issue.
