Social Networking Online relates to formation of a circuit or a chain of friends, family or partners who use variety of tools to interact with each other or share their views in accordance to different aspects.

A proper definition of Online Social Networking can be given by "a community of people who share a common link and thus connect to each other through their social interests or any other needs and thus bond together”.

The growth of Online Social Networking has also come up to the fact that it lends a strong platform for an individual to come out with personal views in a nurtured global way of approach.

The outreach of this service has put together millions of people sitting round the globe and has helped in bringing in the fashion of as said Neo-Classism.

I think a better definition of a true social network is a website platform system that allows the creation of a unique identity, and profile that reflects your individual style that can communicate and be connected to other similar profiles for a common purpose.

A social network, in my opinion, is just as it sounds. A place where people come to talk, get to know each other, and communicate. When the topic is very defined it allows for more of a connection between members. Hence a better environment and a strong community.

Well - My specialty; Social Networking and Internet Marketing. Social networking sites have gotten a boost from Internet Marketers and webmasters of all classes shapes and colors. It's just like in real life; where many people gather on one place, for what reason ever, will soon be a market in full development. That's a fact and it has been like this since we climbed out of the trees.

Social networking sites have actually not been founded to be social but to make money. Since the funders of a social networking site can't make money without a huge amount of members, they have to allow their members to make some money too or at least profit somehow from their participation. The latter is mostly to be referred to placing valuable links to their own website content.
As bigger a social networking site grows as more likely they won't need other Internet Marketers anymore though. Links that where once direct links to the participants websites are changed to internal links like on MySpace and Facebook.

The main purpose of any social networking site, and i mean ANY of them, is to be bought by some huge Internet Company like Google or Microsoft and hit the jackpot this way. So don't give too much weight to the word "social" in social networking sites. It's actually business networking. Without Internet Marketing, social networking sites wouldn't stay in business very long.

For me its a place where you can hangout with your friends. When everyone is busy to build their career and earning good money, I think social networking is good option to be in touch with your friends, your relatives and your close ones.

I think social networking will really take off once more sites adopt OpenID and users no longer have to sign up for an account at every site they join.  Think how convenient it would be, for example, to just start posting to forums like this one with your OpenID rather than signing up for a new account for every forum you want to post on.

Well, hopefully spammers will have a hard time getting OpenIDs in bulk, as they have their own spam safeguards.  Then forums could implement a captcha or some other check to make sure you're a human the first time you try to post to a forum.  There are already quite a few sites that accept OpenIDs and they don't seem to have a spam problem.
