Is a link in a do follow forum better or worse than a comment on a do follow blog? Are they both worse than a blog roll link? Is that better or worse than a link to your homepage from content in a site?

I believe a link from relevant content is the best. Any search engine would like to give no rankings to blog comment links, so it is a matter of time - if they haven't done it already - to give no rankings to these links. But content will always be the king

If your backlinks are just coming from the same sources (all are from blogs, directories or forums, etc) they may have minimal value. The key is diversity in building backlinks. It is also a good practice to vary on the anchor texts so as to make them look more natral for the bots.

So, if I keep getting links from do follow forums, do follow blogs, blog rolls, article sites, directory adds, blog write ups, and corporate websites I should hit the front page one day?

There are more factors that should be considered: 1. Competition for that keyword 2. Relevancy of your backlinks 3. Keyword prominence 4. etc...

I believe that do follow links from from signatures are useful if the forum is relevant to your website. I don't think links from this forum will do you much good if you sell beauty supplies but they might generate so traffic.

Right...beauty vs web design. But what about a sales site and the fact that so many people talk about marketing and other relevant things on this site?

Depending on forum, blog post or blog, their topic. What I noticed lately is that the links in blogroll are less valuable than ones from valuable content. In the same time, a comment on a blog post with high PR on a reputed blog could have high value. It's difficult to generalize this.

probably not. Because unless you automate the process, you won't really be able to compete with the established crowd. Unless you can type at 2000 wpm, of course.
