there's no problem with creating blogs then linking your sites to it as long as the content of your blog linking to your site are all original....

as far as I remember, you can't be hurt by an incoming link from a domain that doesn't belong to you

It's very helpful to creat blogs to get some inbound links for you site, but it's way better to get it from high ranked and active blogs, related to your topic ofcourse.
