If you were going to recommend just three article directories to post to, besides Ezines which would you recommend ?

Hmm, I guess none. I don't think article marketing works the way it worked before 2 years....

It would be better to guest blog on a popular blog in your niche instead of giving your content to article directories that give no value to your content and send you zero traffic.

Thank you for your reply ,although not new to the net or website building I am new to the seo and page ranking aspects as all other websites I have maintained have captive audiences so to speak they are member pages that log on for latest info etc no need to worry about  seo or Google page rank. I am trying to turn what was a part time craft business into a full time living, doing  something I enjoy ,in preference to standing behind a till in the local mall earning minimum wage, of course it would be pleasant to make a little more than that, but right now I would be happy to reach just 5 or 6 sales a week .I have read extensively (all seo articles and blogs from one end of the net to the other and back again) that much so that it is repetitive and  if just reading was a criteria for expert status ,I would be one and with bells on. All seo blurbs recommend article submission, joining social media sites such as squidoo, face book etc I have submitted several articles to Ezines from which I have got some traffic, also to another article site called amazines where according to the stats people have viewed articles but not bothered  to visit my webpage which I don't understand, you would think I would get traffic from both sites, anyway not bothered about having articles picked up for content on other sites was mainly posting articles that were already posted on my own site, but not found until page 113 on google, people find the same  Ezines  article on page 2 or 3 and hopefully visit my site, had been contemplating  joining squidoo  as my token (under duress) social media website promotion strategy, as I don't feel at home in this kind of social  setting, but found in another of your posts you don't recommend squidoo either (too much spam). So for promoting a handcrafted gift what would be your suggestions on my best bets for gaining targeted exposure and hopefully sales. You suggested "guest blog on a popular blog" ok tell me how I would go about that, surely there would be some reciprocity involved and seeing as my google rank for my blog is 1 what benefit would a site that is doing well gain from that....please explain further and in detail

If you can point me in the direction of just obtaining one sale through my website I will be for ever in your debt, doubly so as it will shut my husband up.My site and blog have only been up and running really for about two and a half months , few comments ,one subscriber to my news letter ,since beginning of month logged 210 guests to website and 96 to blog before that don't know, did not realize stats weren't working , at least knowing I have created some interest is better than thinking I was getting no visitors at all as I did with bad stats program.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to find myself standing behind that till somewhere.

Ok Wanrey I hope we will help you shut your husband Smiley

As a guest blogger you don't have to have a popular site, but you have to be able to write good content. You can try to mail 2-3 authority bloggers in your niche and just ask them if they are interested in a guest blog.

Article marketing will not do much as I've already said before. The same goes for squidoo too, but a page there wont harm you either.

A few extra things that come to my mind are :

1) Post in related forums, and use a signature with your site's url (but be productive to the community, not spammy)

2) Create a blog in wordpress.com or blogspot.com (or both) and post there articles - always in your niche - with links to your main site

3) Check our forums and read as much as you can. There are several threads that can help you in order to promote your business Wink

GoArticles & EzineArticles generate the most traffic. Try expanding your thinking to include other types of sites including forums, blogs, industry sites, ezines, social networks...

Hi Wanrey,

First off, fix the link to your site in your signature.

You are working in a field that I am quite familiar with. Par none, the way to get traffic to a crafting site is to offer free projects and patterns. From everything I've seen and heard they are the best link bait for a crafting site. But, the key is to put them on your own site. Article directories are not a place where your customers will be hanging out. In your case I would think about collage and decoupage tutorials - those are hot topics and I have only seen a handful of sites that have anything worthwhile. Maybe a collage bookmark, scrapbook page, etc - things similar to but not exactly like what you make. (The idea is not to tell people how to make what you make but it is to get them talking and linking to your site. It's also a bit of subtle trickery, as in see how hard and how much time it takes to make this stuff why not just buy mine instead. Wink )

I would join Craftster and other crafting forums as well. Crafters Community is also a good one and they are more flexible about posting threads that link back to your own site - as in look at my latest piece sort of thing.

Also, may I suggest you think about what other people call what you make. Part of SEO is guessing what people will put into Google when they are looking for something like what you sell. Looking at the page linked to from your signature and your source code it would seem your primary phrase is "A unique Canadian handcrafted Eco-friendly gift". I'm thinking you might want to research a bit more. Maybe even ask in the craft forums what folks think prospective customers will call what you make. (Do revisit your homepage as your meta tags look to be from another site.)

I would also look into changing around your code a bit to incorporate H1..H6 tags. The search engines use those to help decide what your site is about. I don't see any being used on your homepage. I'm guessing you are using a WYSIWYG editor. Your site is fairly straightforward enough that you might want to consider learning a bit of code and clearing out the clutter of the multitude of extra font and div tags.

I would also work to make a more consistent look and feel across your site. Your items have a price point that requires a site that will help to convince your prospective customer that you are the real deal and are not just going to take their money and not deliver.

I'm with Nikolas on article directories. Many people are using those articles without keeping the links and others are using them with article spinner software (software that "rewrites" the article so that it is different from the original). Use the social bookmarking sites where you can post links to your blog entries instead.

Won't guarantee that will make you a sale but it should get more people visiting your site.

Nik, of course, is correct, but if you REALLY want to know what directories tend to do best after ezines, it's probably goarticles, then articledashboard

I agree with his first 2 posts in general...I just can't quote him yet since i am a newbie here and i am not allowed to post links yet....

There are better ways than article marketing to promote your biz like Nikolas said but article marketing can help you rank high for some non competitive keywords....

There are many advantages of article submissions, some are listed below:

1. Increase the no. of backlinks of your website (which is one-way incoming links towards your site)

2. Your brand name (website name) appears over thousands of article directories

3. It increases the recall value of your brand name

4. You might get some kind of sales through article submitted in the respective directories

5. Your website becomes eligible to get backlinks from different countries website.

6. Your website get indexing in the Search Engines more frequently as compared to before

7. And many more other related benefits from our Article submission Services

If you submit articles to many directories and they accept your submissions, you stand to get more one way backlinks from the author's box/ resource box links. So you may want to make use of reliable article spinning sofwares, so you can have more versions of the keyword-focused articles you send out.

You may want to make sure though that the article spinning software you use are not the ones that replace particular words from its own repository. Choose those where you have to help it build up its repository, because although these can take up a bit more time, you stand to gain many versions that will not only avoid getting flagged for content duplication, but also read like human beings wrote them.

I agree with Nikolas in the way that Articles are not working anymore like the used to be - but they are still a good means for marketing purposes....
I kind of hate the fact that I have to give ezine fresh articles and what do I get in return?Huh They must be making a shitload of money out of this site because the have 10 or so employees...
Never had luck with guest blogging though...
