I do know MediaTemple and DreamHost, It will all most likely be just a personal blog, but I might be doing a few projects that might be needing some of the web hosting resources such as mySQL and such, but not really sure. I might just go with DreamHost but what is the difference between DreamHost and MediaTemple?

MT has a much more advanced technology and dreamhost has the most downtimes
check if you fing some smaller company arround you, a company you can contact directly.
I host with a "smaller" company in the Netherlands where I know the owner. I decide only on the network quality and the experience of the people working in some company.
Some hint: search for a reseller hosting with Directadmin as controle panel, if the host is not so good you can move to new one without a lot of work, even if you have more than 5 websites

Try to compare its offers with, for instance, exmasters.com as I have had a good run with this stable and trustworthy company. And then choose the one that serve your demands.

My favorite hosting company is sambahosting.com. Sambahosting is the leader in Shared/Reseller/VPS webhosting in US & EU. This company offers 24/7 live support, 99% uptime, 30 day money back guarantee. Also they provide high-end technical support. If you are looking for the high quality services with good prices, then it is time for selecting sambahosting.com as your favorite hosting company.

The most "inexpensive" hostin provider I know is webhostgiant.com. They have got plans of 25GB space and 1000gb of bandwidth for less than three dollars monthly, at the same time this is one of the most experienced company (online since 2000). I believe it would be enough for you!

It depends on your budget and the importance of your site for you.
If your budget if enough you could make it for the big one, they will provide you with professional service and you could always demand about their uptime.
But if you have a limited budget, why don't just host your blog for free...? There are a lot of free host out there with a great service because they put their company name on the line for the service.
But of course.....free service are far inferior than a paid service...

Rackspace is pricey but good. We had lots of problems with DreamHost. Liked LiquidWeb much better and still relatively cheap.
