I need some help I've tried everything but nothing works. I have a toshiba dvd-rom sd-c2512 which is on a ThinkPad T23 IBM. Now the error is saying "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows." Now I have tried any and all cds but nothing. I am trying to install ubuntu but its not working and I have the Official and a Non-Official copy and I'm not sure what else to do. I have check for updates and everything. Can anyone help?

It looks like your DVD reader rust in peace....
Try to use it on another computer just to be sure, but I don't think you can ressurect it, except if the problem is in the laser head (but the cost of the service may be bigger than buying a new one)

Check Bios and see if the system can read the Drive properly, sometimes, you can check the power line to the drive to see if it gets sufficient power from the mobo. And sometimes, a full shutdown and boot-up will fix the reading problem.
Most drives will fail to read if it tried to read an unreadable(defective) CD and it then you try other CD's it will still fail. Try pushing the Lens track (not the lens) a bit if you can open it if it still doesn't work. Most probably it is a power problem...
