I've recently started to see logins (even in some forums) that accepts OpenId. What do you think of OpenID? Do you think it will take off or just a short-term fad?

It should take off, but with google and facebook having their own "global login" systems it may not.
In any way this thing is really helping small sites to get more members.

Tried this in Drupal and didn't work. Will have to study it again and see, but it certainly is a good application because if you are like me, you must be tired of having a thousand different usernames and passwords.

I'm not a big fan of it. I think that it's easier to remember 5 different username/passwords rather than a long URL (have you seen how long that URL strain is?) even if I were to cut/paste it. However, I do think that if it had more networks attached to it (something like Google for example), then I wouldn't see the problem with it working. I also think that other networks should make sure they're 100% complant w/ Open ID's format before adding it to their site. I had some of the same issues as Drupaljohn as not all of the sites were taking my unique Open ID URL strain.

yes, it would rock if networks associated with google [orkut, youtube, ect] accept it. then it will be of some good.

Of course, such tactics can increase your website traffic by users don't to regiter to your website. But in case of forums, such thing will become bad because spammers may harm that forum.

I have tried to implement OpenID into my site. I used LoginRadius which provides multiple OpenID providers and easy to add. I think LoginRadius might be helpful who want to add OpenID.

I think Open ID is not going to stick around much longer because you have to pay for it, and there are other alternatives that are free in my opinion.

I don't see it taking off because of the big major players already implementing their own versions of it. It is a good idea but the competition is fierce.
