According to your opinion, how often your website should be updated? What website updates are the most important for a website? What advices would you provide for people who are going to update a website?

My basic rule is that I have to update my site with high quality content. Now the more often you update a site is the better. So it actually depends on you, and on the frequency that you can produce quality content.

Interesting topic and one I plan to write on in more depth. When I first created my business website I did not know anywhere near what I do now when it comes to SEO. Over the past week or two I have been reviewing every page of my business website.
In between cleaning up a few pesky typos, I've begun to totally rethink how each page links to the other, clean up the meta tags and even rewrite/re-optimize many of the under-performing pages.
In answer to your specific question with regard to existing content, a lot depends on if you believe you can improve the inter-linking of your pages, the keyword optimization or just make things look more appealing with a design change. If you don't see the potential for gain, you should focus on adding new content rather than messing with the old.
As to adding new content - every time I add new page(s) to any of my sites, I see a measurable increase in traffic within a few days.

I think, it will be every day. Site must live with us.

Yes, I agree Google and many other search engines like frequent content updates!

I do not have a specific time. But I would prefer to update it weekly or at least monthly. Depending on site, you could do it often or not. For the corporation site, we can't do it often - press releases, events, news - it's how we update it. So, everytime when something interesting happen in the company, we post about it and update the site. More, when we have an advertising campaign, we try to update the site too. Other method we use is for a specific campaign, we make a minisite, which will direct users to specific pages of the site. So even if we do not update the site, we get new links and offer users something fresh.

I agree with this assessment. Even if you were to add a little blurb to your site on a daily basis, I think it's important for people who are going to your site for one reason or another should have that feeling that the information that they're reading is the most up-to-date. Many people would look @ the front page and see the date of the latest addition. If it's within 24 hours of their visit, for all intensive purposes they think that it's current (even if they don't read the updated content). Yes, I realize that this may be thinking that I would think some of our visitors may not have the highest IQ, but when they do see a current date as far as an update, they tend to stay for a longer period of time.

I've discussed this topic at length with fellow successful social marketers. Their "mo" is simple. Content trumps over quality. If in doubt, update as often as possible. I hate to admit it... but based on what I've seen I think they are probably right.

a daily update at least would be highly recommended but it really depends on a lot of things. What your website it, its level of competition, is it's title something like "daily updates", and other stuffs. But if it's a stable site already ith a decent amount of good traffic, then twice a week would be just practical.
