What do I mean? I have noticed lately that allot of small websites are merging with bigger websites. To make a even bigger website. Is it impossable to be able to make it as a small time web designer in todays market?

what is big and what is small?

I think having one bigger site is much better than having multiple smaller sites (last one is much more work)

I think small websites are still prevailing in the market and capturing a very good market as well. So I think they will be here till this internet exist. This is the law of nature that with big one there will be always small one as well.

They still coexist pretty well... If your site gets merged with a bigger one, then it's a good thing, eventually small sites will grow big as well with proper technique and a bunch of luck!

Web 2.0 apps will make custom and small websites much more affordable for small businesses and other organizations.

I think, small bussines is better than great. You can add or close small sites according your money. And to make small site costs less than great site.

I have to whole-heartily disagree that there's no more work for web developers simply because of small sites being a thing of the past.  Just because a service/company website doesn't have a lot of pages in it (ex:  coca-cola may have as many as 500 pages within it's site compared to Mom & Pop beverage center who may have 10 pages within their site), it doesn't mean that it's not a viable force on the internet.  If a "small fry" decides to make a presence for their specific niche may be it be on a national or local areal (ex:  "soft drink" being national compared to "virginia beach soft drink" being local), they will obviously have more success locally rather than nationally.  In each and every town, there will always be a mom and pop shop who wants to expand.  Part of the success of expansion deals with making a website not only is web 2.0 compliant, but be able to increase their awareness not only in a local area, but slowly expanding to regional as well (ex:  Virginia Beach soft drink being local vs. Princess Anne County soft drink being regional)

I think that creating small website can be really helpful to small businesses. Small businesses are in need of a way to reach people. Creating a small informative website is a good way to do that.

Hope this helps

I don't think so.Small and the big , both have existed and will exist together. There might be an increase in the number of big sites but still small sites still occupy a good fraction of the market and I still think you have a good probablity to survive as a small web designer and even better if you tie up with the big players.

I'd rather say that this is the time of small/niche websites rather than big/general websites.

I don't think that is true. As far as you have to good content the size doesn't matters

I don't see the point.
Firstly you can easily turn any small website into a big one.
Secondly, it's not the site size that matters at the end of the day, but the degree of site optimization and the company's name behind the site.

I think content quality is more important than site size.

Did you really just say it's not the size that matters? Smiley

There will always be small businesses who need help putting together smaller sites. I haven't seen any changes in this regard.

i think their main purpose is to resale their website for earning purposes and after all it all depends how you want to take advantage from your website.
