To strengthen our Dutch team, we seek to hire a  Senior Software Engineer to work out of our Amsterdam office.  You would play an important role at Marktplaats.nl, developing new and interesting features for the site.  At Marktplaats.nl, we have a fantastic community with over 2.4 million unique visitors per month and more than 70.000 listings per day.  This brings unique challenges for your software development skills and opens possibilities to make a difference in the biggest  Dutch online trading community.  At Marktplaats.nl, we also build innovative features, like the worlds first MMS photo upload tool for a classifieds web site.  Marktplaats.nl is the largest website developed within the Netherlands!

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications.
• Segment and design system layers to support componentized and layered application development, including user interface, business functionality, and database access.
• Work with other engineers, managers, Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles.
• Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changes.
• Must be able to independently design, code and test major features, as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver complex changes.
• Share release management duties on feature rollouts, share on-call responsibilities.
• Develop industry and product technical expertise.

Job Requirements

• University degree in computer sciences or a related field.
• 4+ years experience in requirements analysis, design, coding and unit testing of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant applications in Web environments.
• Expertise required in object-oriented design methodology.
• Strong preference for application development experience in PHP.
• Preference for experience in an object oriented language such as Java, or C++.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (prefer MySQL or Oracle), HTTP/HTML/JS/CSS, and basic LINUX system administration.
• Creativity, high energy, dedicated, results oriented person.
• Fluent in English and Dutch (written and spoken).
