Hello everyone...
So here's the thing...
I got a little blog at wordpress.com and i will hopefully move it to my self hosted one in a month or so...
My wordpress blog has around 15 articles and a few good rankings at some minor keywords plus a few backlinks as well...
The question is: Should I 301 redirect it to my new self hosted domain or just leave it as it is and just put a backlink to my new site?
What's the best solution SEO wise according to you?
I am a little undecided with that and your opinion could help me a lot to decide which solution is best...
Thank you in advance all!!!

how do you redirect post on a hosted wordpress blog?
maybe it's an idea to host you blog with wordpress on your own domain (don't know if WP will redirect posts to the new URL)

Well i will have to buy from wordpress.com a small upgrade that costs 10 dollars per year so as to be able to redirect my wordpress.com domain to my own self hosted one...
I did a little research about it and it is not that difficult to do it...My question though is whether i should do this redirect or not from the SEO view of things.I am not sure about it/
My self hosted domain will be wordpress as well so it will not be difficult to export the posts etc from the old one...
I hope i did not confuse you

I'm not confused
But redirects are only possible from the location where the posts are located and correct me if I'm wrong you don't have access to WP server which makes you able to redirect from the WP pages to your own domain?
In the "setting->domain section" is an option to redirect posts and I thought that this will help to update the listings in googel

This is what i am telling you...
With a small fee at wordpress per year (10 dollars) you are allowed to purchase upgrades that let you evne redirect your old domain to a self hosted one
It's easy to do it and i found a step by step guide at google to do it
My main question though is should i 301 redirect or just leave the wordpress blog as it is and put a link to it pointing at my new one?
Why do i feel that my question is not understood? lol

currently you have your blog at someblog.wordpress.com
using the hosted WP blog on your own domain will create new links on that domain. If it is right WP will redirect the visitor to the new domain (f.e. the visitor has followed an old link)
after a while (at the moment the old WP links are gone) you can export the blog and host it on your own host.
so there is at this moment no need for 301 redirects on your own host

301 redirect is the best solution as it wont harm your rankings. BUT this will work only if full uris are redirected. So for example x.com/a should point to y.com/a not y.com

@olaf
For god's sake man:P...I've been trying for several posts now to tell you that YOU CAN DO IT if you pay a small fee to wordpress.com(10 dollars a year)
As Nikolas said since i will be using a self hosted blog that will be wordpress.org based i will have to take a look at the uris so as to be identical between the old blog and then knew one...

I think, you should not redirect it to to your new host because it will not beneficial for you.
