Interactive RSS feeds?

I'm in the process of moving a Proboards board to SMf. I just know I'll lose many of my casual members and visitors in the move. I saw something on the SMF support forum about Echo Forums---basically software that integrates feeds. The gist is whenever your board's members reply to whatever feeds you chose on your board, their posts are also posted on the source board..with your link in the poster's signature.

I thought this was a fabulous idea, but unfortunately it seems that Echo Forum has dropped the ball on this. They are not responding to any requests for info even from current users. There's no way I can even install something like that without at least an active support forum.

I've searched Google to no avail for something similar. Does anyone here know of any other program like this?

This program must be great, and I am sorry that this is the first time I hear about it.

As for the rss I have made a script that posts feeds into this forum, but it doesn't do the reverse thing that you described.

But I heared that the new version of IPB will have something like that. Maybe you should search their site.

I read on the SMF board that this was set up similar to how some old bbs and usenet groups were back in the day. So, I'm thinking that writing the code shouldn't be too difficult with some research. Whoever pulls it off can make a bundle. I was willing to pay $45/year for 10 feeds.

It increases posts and traffic on your board as well as advertise your board with every reply to an RSS post.

The Echo Forum site main page itself has a notice that it's down for maintenance.

However, I was able to activate a membership on Monday so I can get in through the backdoor, sort of:

Update: I just read on the SMF board that Echoforum hasn't been supporting this since Sept. No word on why. Some regular subscribers are unable to get their feeds or their emails answered. I had such hope for this.

They offered a free three month trial membership that allowed you 3-5 feeds and the next level up was an annual membership that allowed up to 10 feeds for $45. They said they offered thousands of feeds. The transition from free trial to annual was supposedly seamless.

What really interested me about it was the interactivity. The RSS posts we responded to on our board would be displayed on the orginating board, too, with our link in the signature. More people to post with right off the bat and more advertisement for our board with every one of our posts.

That's a very nice service.

The only time consuming thing in the development is that you should have a way to get the blog comments and add them as replies to your postings.

Maybe I will try to implement it when I have some free time, but propably it will take some months.

I think you would do really well with it in conjunction with your Topsites site.
