Hi
So... How can I increase incoming links? Are the link exchange days over? Or is this still something that should be done?
I know some if you will say that I just need to create good content that others will want to link to and therefore do this, but that is not going to work here. Ask yourself how often you link to other websites as you are browsing because of good content.
Have a nice day vtlglobal Inc.

Well, u have to remeber the fact that reciprocal links are NOT as effective as they used to be. This does not mean abandon ship as many other webmasters have done. This just means they do not play the same role as they used to. They do however have the long term effect and can still bring you a bunch of targeted traffic at no cost to you.

BTW, the reason link exchanges are important ranges from your traffic quality to your search engine position. This method of traffic building is 100% free and this always fits nicely into any website's budget. It just requires dedication and time to build up quality links with other sites. By taking the time to sniff out links that relate to you and sites that are legit can have some huge payoffs.
Just another rainy day

Search in Google for the term 'link bait'. You should get some awesome ideas to get started.

Even registrations in site directories still work. Of course, they are not so effective as some years ago.

Incoming links don't have an immediate effect , search engine crawlers go out onto the web an proactively collect information on websites which they then commit to the search engines index (its memory) , but it is not an overnight process, you won't start to feel the benefits of it until that page has been indexed.

Be careful with link exchanges. Linking to bad sites and bad neighborhoods can hurt your SERPs.
My suggestion is not to focus on number of links, but number of domains linking to your site. Lots of links is fine, but does not carry as much weight if it only comes from a few domains.

Recently, when Netscape purchased NewHoo, the Open Directory, I was quick to submit my site to be included. The only complaint I have with the Open Directory Project is that the editor in the category you are trying to submit your site to may be your competitor and may try to list your site lower in the list. But you can submit your site to three or four different categories if it belongs. Recently, Lycos and HotBot adopted the Open Directory, so getting listed with the Open Directory may bring you a lot of traffic.

You might want to email a website owner who has a site closely related to your niche and ask if he wants to do 3-way link exchange with you. It is a lot more trouble, but it'll worth it.

This is what exactly happen to me, I do blog commenting, social bookmarking, forum posting, directory submission all manually. After 3 months I get PR2 from PR0. In this case you also need patience.

I think the best link building technique is the one you do not feel bored in doing,If you like hanging out in forums do forum posting, if you are good at articles and have interest in it then do article submission and then there is blog commenting, social bookmarking and what not

Link exchange is not that effective nowadays. You have to come up with better ideas.
I heard that creating authority sites profile is helpful.
The question is: you have to find the sites that allow adding your site URLs and of course it shall be relevant and authority.
