Do you think its worth saving a few bucks and get free domains/subdomains?? Or will people be less willing to take you seriously?

I think that most people won't know if a domain extension was free or not. But for subdomains, its a different thing to have a domain like http://businessname.freehost.com/

My opinion is that, .com/.net or your country's tld are more recognised and easier to remember.

Yeah, except alot of free domains or short subdomains (.tk or .co.nr) either have popup or a banner ad required saying about there free service which does tell alot of people they are free. Even still though, I think that these are better than http://www.Mysite.freehost.com

Oh, actually I don't know about free domains, so I have no idea some free domains have popups or banner ads. Smiley But if your website is for non-personal use, ie, for profit, it's better to invest a few dollars for a domain- it'll pay itself off.

I think since domains are fairly cheap it is worth buying one. But if you aren't very serious about your website it isn't needed.

That's for sure. Anyway it is only like 5 - 10 $ dollars to buy one

And when you own a domain you feel like your website is much more official and concrete. You know you will have the domain for atleast a year so you can be sure to have it available to all your visitors.

I often use free domains like .tk but my sites don't really need to have a real domain. Once I become more serious with my website I will buy a domain right away.

I think it's better to have your own domain, as people aren't likely to remember something.domain.com.
.tks and cjb.nets aren't respected as much as .coms or a country TLD.

Get your own domain.  Many SEs take the domain into consideration with SERPs.

If you arent gonna buy a domain name, you aren't gonna be taken very seriously IMHO.

Ill be damned if I ever think about Geocities after today.
